STRUCTURAL & PRESSURE VESSEL WELDER

DIPLOMA PROGRAM • TOTAL HOURS: 1200 HOURS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program will provide students with a thorough hands-on and theoretical education in the welding field. The program was developed in conjunction with the CWBi ACORN training program that has been designed to train employees who are job-ready for the current and future needs of the welding and joining industry.

Our state-of-the-art campuses provide our students with the opportunity to gain critical welding experience using modern equipment in welding processes that include: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or ‘MIG’), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or ‘TIG’), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or ‘Stick’).

Upon graduation students will be well-suited to enter the following occupations: Welder, Welder Fitter Trainee, Apprentice Welder, Apprentice Boilermaker, Apprentice Construction Millwright, Apprentice Ironworker, and Apprentice Pipefitter.

PROGRAM LENGTH

(55 WEEKS, 1200 HOURS)
The Structural & Pressure Vessel Welder program is divided into 5 modules of theory and skills training. This program has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to start their new career in Welding Technology as soon as possible. Please see your enrollment agreement for specific days of the week and hours per day.

TUITION & FINANCIAL AID

All tuition costs include books, exam fees, took kit and uniforms. Financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. Students are encouraged to visit our Business Affairs department for any questions related to tuition and/or financial aid.

WELDING HEALTH AND SAFETY

Students will learn to create a safe work environment. To learn about general hazards in welding and how to control them. Health and safety for specific operations will be covered as well.

BASIC MATH FOR WELDERS

This course covers Basic Math as it pertains to welding: volume, circumference, area, effective part layout and how to properly read a tape measurer.

WELDING SYMBOLS

Students will learn basic weld joints and preparation for welding, weld symbols and weld types.

WELDING BASICS

This course will cover electrodes and consumables as well as the different welding processes and equipment.

WHMIS & FALL PROTECTION

Students will learn basic welding: welding straight beads, 50/50 beads and welding t-joints.

POSITIONAL WELDING LEVEL 1

Students will learn basic welding: welding straight beads, 50/50 beads and welding t-joints.

BLUEPRINT READING FOR WELDERS LEVEL 1

This module will discuss major metals and their uses, types of steel products & the effect of temperature on steels.

POSITIONAL WELDING LEVEL 2

Students will be welding in different positions & welding SMAW & GMAW.

BLUEPRINT READING FOR WELDERS LEVEL 2

This module will cover structural drawings and more advanced blueprint reading. We will also cover weld faults and their general causes.

POSITIONAL WELDING LEVEL 3

Students will be welding more advanced positions with SMAW & FCAW.

POSITIONAL WELDING LEVEL 4

Students will learn how to weld with 6010 and 7018 rods.

JOB SEARCH

This unit will provide the student with the basics to create an effective resume and the skills to proactively search for a job. The students will also become comfortable with conducting interviews and know what to expect when entering an interview.

TSSA THEORY

This module will prepare the student to weld open root. We will discuss the importance of welding, with 6010 & 7018. This module will teach basic techniques of visual inspection.

POSITIONAL WELDING LEVEL 4

Students will learn how to weld with 6010 and 7018 rods.

PIPE THEORY

This module will prepare the student to weld pipe. We will discuss the different techniques of pipe welding. This module will teach pipe welding, pipe layout and pipe drawing.

TPI-MAS helps students recognize the choices they have in life and how to control how they think to change the way they live their lives.
