How to Become a
Registered Real Estate Broker
Understanding the Learning Path in Ontario
Our program follows the curriculum developed and approved by RECO, the regulator of real estate services in Ontario. Becoming a real estate broker is a big step forward in your real estate career. In Ontario, the process is regulated to ensure that all brokers meet high professional and ethical standards. To qualify, you’ll need to be a registered salesperson, complete a broker training program, and register with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).

What Does a
Real Estate Broker Do?
Real estate brokers are experienced professionals who take on more responsibility than salespeople. With a broker license, you can manage your own brokerage, oversee other agents, or step into a leadership role within an existing firm.
Here’s what brokers typically do:
- Lead Complex Transactions: Manage deals involving multiple parties and legal considerations.
- Ensure Compliance: Stay current with RECO regulations and make sure your team does too.
- Support & Mentor Agents: Guide new salespeople and help them grow.
- Manage Brokerage Operations: Handle legal and financial matters, resolve issues, and make sure everything runs smoothly.
- Build Business Strategy: Drive growth, develop new business, and build a strong network.
It’s a great next step for real estate professionals who want to grow their earning potential and lead with confidence.
